Skin Cancer

Mohs Surgery

Many more complex skin cancers may be treated with Mohs Surgery (microscopically controlled excision), in which microscope slides are made on the spot (taking 20-40 minutes) to see if the cancer has been completely removed. If cancer is still present, it will be traced microscopically in a step-by-step fashion. Mohs surgery, which was developed by Dr. Frederic Mohs, has the highest cure rate of any treatment, leaves the smallest defect possible, and maximizes the potential for complete tumor removal. Smaller defects usually result in simpler reconstructions with a better cosmetic outcome.

When starting practice in Loveland in 1979, Dr. Lillis was the first trained Mohs surgeon in any of the Rocky Mountain states. Since that time, he has performed Mohs Surgery on hundreds of skin cancer cases every year. He is a member of the prestigious Mohs College of Micrographic Surgeons.
